Always a day late and a gold short.
Onos is a little on the short side and looks slender for a man. In fact, were you to see him without his clothes, “scrawny” is the first word that would spring to mind. Despite his small stature, he is still an attractive lad. He has the bronze skin typical of Taldans with flowing, shoulder-length hair the color of dark mahogany. His eyes are a striking amber color that nearly glow with an inner light. Combined with a strong, square jaw and an aquiline nose, Onos looks every bit the noble Taldan despite his hieght.
Unlike most Taldans, however, Onos isn’t wearing the latest fashions. He’s dressed in worn, but well-made, clothing fit for an explorer. He seems to have opted for an overabundance of pockets as his signature look. By the look of things, the pockets are not just for show as many of them bulge with unknown contents. Battered studded leather peeks out from his collar and makes his shoulders look much larger than would be normal for his frame. A simple wooden holy symbol of Sarenrae dangles from a leather thong around his neck.

Onos was born in the city of Oppara in the nation of Taldor. Although not a noble family, Onos’s father is a successful and wealthy merchant while his mother is a consummate merchant’s wife and thrower of excellent parties. Onos has four siblings (two older brothers, a younger brother, and a younger sister) and they had a happy childhood amidst luxury and servants.
Although not lacking in self-confidence, Onos never developed the arrogance that seems to be every Taldan’s gods-given right. Instead, he sought out foreigners with their exotic clothes, strange customs, and exciting stories. This attraction to all things non-Taldan is what brought Onos to the church of Sarenrae. Unlike most Clerics, Onos was not called. He showed up at he church door and paid for training as if it were a guild apprenticeship.
Onos had a talent for divine service and quickly finished his training. Both Onos and his mentor knew from his first day of training that Onos would never be a preacher or content to stay in one place teaching others Sarenrae’s ways. No, Onos is a priest who leads by example; a Cleric who must go forth and bring Sarenrae’s light to the world through deeds, sometimes words, and (when needed), by the sword.
Onos left everything and everyone he ever knew behind only a week after his training was complete to set off on a grand adventure. His hope – to garner enough interesting experiences and useful knowledge to be accepted into the Pathfinder Society.
Onos used the last of the money his family gave him to book passage on a series of ships that took him from Oppara, across the entire Inner Sea, and finally to the town of Sandpoint. The entire trip was plagued by boredom and a complete lack of adventure. Onos, it seems, was some kind of good luck charm for sailors. The journey was nothing but smooth sailing, favorable weather, and totally uneventful.
For several years, Onos toured Varisia (including all it’s major cities) and although he was always looking for a way to “be a hero,” he always seemed to miss opportunities for greatness my the narrowest of margins. Onos wrote down a detailed accounting of his journey, which can be read (at least in part) in the he submitted to the Pathfinder Society when he applied to become an initiate. Examples of the opportunities he missed include:
- Arrived in Sandpoint just after a band of adventurers had destroyed a Goblin threat. Watched in envy as they proceeded to save the town multiple times. Left town just after the group headed north into the wilderness.
- Spent time in Riddleport studying the Cyphergate. Arrived too late to join a group of adventurers investigating “The Blot”. Conducted his own studies, but somehow always managed to miss the important parts. Evacuated when things looked worst.
- Spent time in Kaer Maga studying with the Duskwardens.
- Visited Janderhoff to spend time among Dwarves.
- Arrived in Korvosa just as the city came under the grip of disease and rebellion. Spent most his time there in hiding.
- Returned to Sandpoint just days after a band of adventurers headed north in a caravan with Ameiko Kaijitsu.
- Finally made his way to Magnimar where he fell in love with the various monuments.
Despite his extensive travels, Onos has been remarkably lucky in that he’s rarely (if ever) been in trouble. Never been accosted by bandits or Goblins. Somehow managed to avoid Giant patrols. Never got arrested by the Gray Maidens, etc. Some would call this lucky or fortunate. Onos sees it as a failure, especially since his link with Sarenrae focuses completely on the Heroism Domain. The irony is not lost on Onos.
After the last disappointment in Sandpoint, Onos booked passage on a series of ships bound for Absalom. There, he entered the initiate program with the Pathfinder Society. Thanks to his extensive travels and studies, he breezed through the program and is now on the cusp of graduating. With luck, he will find himself assigned to somewhere in the exotic south – perhaps Osirion or the Mwangi Expanse. One can dream…
