That's Big Lake

Pharast 16, 4717

  • We found a shrine to the Old Gods. A sort of “visitor’s shrine” for visitors from Leng. Sawyer had a terrible vision when he stepped upon the dais where the altar was.
  • We found the Curator’s body and looted some moderately powerful magic items off it.
  • We found a permanent Mage’s Magnificent Mansion. We decided to use it as a fall-back and/or resting location and left it alone for now.
  • We found a never-ending corridor and decided to fall back to investigate the room with the very narrow staircase.
  • The room is sort of a shrine dedicated to (an ancient version of) Desna. The stairs lead to a portal of sorts that go to a platform 1,200 feet above an ancient forest. In the DIMENSION OF DREAMS. It’s Desna’s Dreaming Tower. Apparently this is a big deal.
  • We traversed a tunnel a half-mile long where we were attacked by a pair of the angel statues. Pavo nearly died when he tried to use a non-existent Ring of Force Shield.
  • We found a gigantic underground lake in an even larger cavern. After a brief exploration, we decided to fall back, thoroughly explore all the past rooms, and rest.

Pharast 17, 4717

  • Sawyer and I used the special Conjuration & Evocation rooms to prepare spells.

Session 40
Beyond the Fog

Pharast 16, 4717

  • Although the leathery shapes did not move, the creatures ON the leathery shapes did move. We had to kill a pair of Skullrippers!
  • The leathery shapes were dead Cloakers.
  • The room was once a library. Now there were just a few magic items and scrolls carved into silver plates.
  • We entered a hexagonal rooms full of statues (female, faceless, with four wings and silver swords). The place is apparently some kind of museum.
  • Some of the rooms apparently bestow visions upon the first person into the room.
  • We found a room with a Delayed Blast Fireball held in stasis. Sawyer thinks that anyone who prepares Evocations spells in this room may gain an advantage.
  • In another room is a stone carriage and a bunch of other oddities (mummified snake, an iron rod, and an iron wand). After identifying these items, a Ghost appeared and attacked us. We “destroyed” him, but we know he’ll be back.
  • We had to fight an Intellect Devourer-possessed Silver Dragon and an insane Roper.
  • In a large fountain, we were attacked by a pair of Huge Water Elementals.

Session 39
Penetrating the Giltspur (he said, "penetrating")

Pharast 16, 4717

  • We started checking rooms for more Giants to talk to kill.
  • In one room were three Fire Giants. We managed to fool them into thinking we were new mercenaries. Because they were drunk, it worked.
  • We descended stairs and found ourselves in a series of rough-hewn passages and caves.
  • In one chamber, we found a strange, seven-sided rune-covered pillar. “Who sleeps in Giltspur’s shadow shall know this fear and what waits beyond shall…”
  • We found ourselves in a large hallway that was basically a abattoir. Three Hill Giants paid in blood for the carnage they had caused (or at least ignored).
  • In an enormous room, there were seven more Hill Giants. Were.
  • Next, we entered a circular room, we faced a horde of Hill Giants as well as Chief Jubbek and a Fire Giant. We killed most of them, but after we killed Chief Jubbek, the remaining Hill Giants and the Fire Giant surrendered.
  • We negotiated the “retreat” of the rest of the Giants and went to investigate the “room of creepy fog.”
  • We passed through a Mage’s Private Sanctum to find a large room with two leathery mounds. Oh no!

The Next Shard

Calistra 1, 4717

  • The Shard of Envy showed us a vision of Giltspur – an old embassy and laboratory of the Runelord Karazoug.
  • We spoke with Lady Heidmarch. She gave us an Ioun Stone for the next Shard of Wrath. Also, the mold to put all the Shards together is at the bottom of the Crow. She is having some other minions bring the mold up to the surface where the thing will be assembled in a big ceremony.
  • There’s a Blue Dragon named Cadrilkasta has enslaved Giants to form some sort of excavation at Giltspur. There will likely be horrors from Leng as well.

Calistra 2, 4717

  • Stared crafting.

Pharast 13, 4717

  • Teleported to Kaer Maga and went to the Therassic Spire to research Giltspur.
  • We learned: 1) there are likely to be portals to Leng in the tower, 2) some specifics about its denizens, 3) some geographical information.
  • Lissala: 1) perfected Dragon magic, 2) Azlanti goddess.
  • Cadrilkasta: 1) is a girl, 2) seeking a “great treasure”

Pharast 16, 4717

  • We used Wind Walk to travel to Giltspur.
  • After scouting the area, we used Dimension Door to assault the Giant fortress from the inside.
  • There were 4 Hill Giants, 2 Fire Giants, and some leader Fire Giant. We wiped them out and prepared to investigate the rest of the building.

Beyond the Doomsday Door - Part 7

Abadius 28, 4717

  • Using the advice of a Commune spell, we bypassed the double-Doomsday Doors with Dimension Door.
  • In front of another set of double-Doomsday Doors, were a pair of Stone Golems. They dished out some good damage, but we were able to destroy them.
  • We used Dimension Door to bypass the next set of Doomsday Doors and found ourselves in a fight against Ardathanatus, four Sinspawn, and a pair of the crab Daemons.
  • As if that weren’t bad enough, Zolerium came out of a wall and joined in the fray by slitting us up with a Wall of Force.
  • Literally through the grace of Sarenrae, we somehow managed to overcome all these foes.
  • No sooner had we killed Ardathanatus that his foul god started to push its way through the portal!
  • We were pretty much fucked, but Onos managed to get Sarenrae’s attention. The goddess closed the Doomsday Doors on the hideous thing just as it collected the body of its failed disciple.
  • We survived.

Beyond the Doomsday Door - Part 6

Abadius 27, 4717

  • As we approached the pretty room, 6 Grotean Will-O-Wisps attacked us. We killed five of them, but the last one fled.
  • We enter a room with four more coffins, each one containing the mummified remains of a high priest of Groteus. Actually, Mummies. And then eight more Mummies came at us from two other rooms! That’s a lot of Mummies.
  • We killed all but two of the Mummies and had to track the other two down in a large chamber with a special Mega-Mummy. The Mega-Mummy put up quite a fight, paralyzing several of us with fear (luckily, Sawyer saved us with a Wall of Force). Then he summoned Shadows which made our lives problematic..
  • There was a set of double doors guarded by a pair of Doomsday Locks. Not knowing of we needed two keys to open this set of doors, we decided to backtrack to the Doomsday Door on the third level.
  • Behind the door is a portal leading to the edge of the Fogscar Mountains.
  • We opened the other Doomsday Door on the fourth level and found some treasure – most of which turned out to be cursed.
  • We went back to the Efreeti’s smithy and found them all gone. So, we got some fire protection and searched the room and found nothing of interest.
  • Unable to find any hidden doors or caches, we had to resort to reading through all the books we’d collected.
  • We decided to fall back and try to decide how to progress.

Beyond the Doomsday Door - Part 5

Abadius 26, 4717

  • We questioned Rickle Peaks (a ghost haunting a library). The most important information we gained was that Artathanatus is not here and that he never passed through the Doomsaday Door adjacent to the library that leads to a magical portal that transports people to a mountainous region “far away”.
  • The Ghost joins us as we investigate the rest of the level.
  • We went down to the next level and found a room with a central pillar. There was a door with another Doomsday Lock. So, we backed up and went down the other stairway, leading to a large cavern guarded by six Sea Drakes!
  • There was nowhere else to go from the sea cave. So, we went back to the pillared room with the Doomsday Lock on the door.
  • Grath found a magical Abjuration trap on the door. While trying to disable the trap, he set it off.
  • Beyond the door, four shadow-like monsters attacked us from four sarcophagi. Onos was nearly killed, but we managed to kill the Shadow monsters.
  • Depleted of many resources, we fell back to the lighthouse again and restored Gein Kafog’s Wisdom. He’s a priest of Zon-Kuthon and was able to give us some information; none of it terribly useful.

Abadius 27, 4717

  • Before descending to the 4th-level again, we found our invisible “ghost.” It turned out to be some sort of scary Fey creature. He died quickly.
  • We did a quick search of the library and found a secret door where we liberated several useful scrolls.
  • We set of a rusty trap that only hurt Pavo a bit.

Beyond the Doomsday Door - Part 4

Abadius 25, 4717

  • We encountered two more Gongorinans. Grath and Sawyer were turned into a monkey before we could kill them. At least Grath was able to Wild Shape out of his Baleful Polymorph.
  • We had to fall back to the lighthouse (again) to rest and remove the curse on Sawyer.

Abadius 26, 4717

  • We investigated a workshop for making Alchemical and Clockwork Golems.
  • We find a room decorated with a sort of an illusory planetarium.
  • We stumbled into a room where two dominatrix’s were torturing a man strapped to a table. The women turned out to be Animate Dreams! We killed the women and found the man had been totally Wisdom drained by them.
  • We had Grath and Sawyer take him up to the lighthouse, but before they could get there, they were attacked by six Sinspawn.
  • During the battle, the creepy Golem-crafter entered the fray as well. This turned out to be Zolerim, the priest of Nethys that betrayed the Abbey. Once we started to threaten him, he used Dimension Door to escape.
  • So, we went back to Zolerim’s room to look for him and or loot the room. * On the way there, he jumped us at one of the intersections. We had him in serious trouble and he used Dimension Door again.

Beyond the Doomsday Door - Part 3

Evening of Abadius 24, 4717

  • In a chamber meant to represent Groetus’ connection to ruins, we were attacked by a crab-like Qlippoth. Then a second one teleported in to help his chitonous buddy. Pavo got turned into a leopard!
  • We searched all the rooms we’d been in and headed back to rest to try to un-polymorph Pavo.

Morning of Abadius 25, 4717

  • The last room on level two contained Walter White’s RV.
  • We found (yet another) Doomsday Door, but this one had strong Conjuration magic on it, was humming, and seemed to shudder and regular intervals. We left it alone for now.
  • In a room full of fire, we had to fight an Efritti and three Salamanders. The room was so hot it would have burned us alive, so we left the smith to his work and went a different way.
  • We found a storage room with jars of blue mist.
  • While identifying a magic blue lantern, a Night Hag attacked us. Then she turned incorporeal and traveled through the wall to escape. We managed to kill her with a pair of well-timed crits.
  • In an otherwise empty room, we killed a Bar-Igura.
  • We found a prison complex. We free a man named Nildus. He tells us some things. We escorted him to the lighthouse and returned to the fray.

Beyond the Doomsday Door - Part 2

Abadius 24, 4717

  • Our Red Cap companion tried to escape, so we trapped her in the hallway with the Doomsday Door.
  • We thoroughly searched the level we’re on and bashed down a wall to discover it leads up to a trap door in the floor of the abbey.
  • We descended the stairs and came upon four Werebears that attacked us. Halfway through the fight, two Shoggti joined in the fight from behind the Werebears! We managed to kill them all.
  • We fell back to the “lighthouse” to rest for few hours using nap stack.

Evening of Abadius 24, 4717

  • Back down the stairs, we found a shrine to Sarenrae. When Onos prayed in the shrine, he received a vision that there is still a little bit of faith in Pharsma left in Ardathanatus – he may still be redeemable.
  • Grath disable some kind of magical water trap.
  • We found another Doomsday Door.
  • We found a shrine to Desna covered in orange slime. Inside, another horrible Quillpoth creature attacked us. It gave us some problems, but we killed it.
  • We returned to the upstairs Doomsday Door and fortunately, the same combination opened the lock. We descended the stairs on the other side.
  • We entered a room with another Doomsday Door in it. There is a fresco of an ancient priest prophesying the death Aroden – 10,000 years before his death!
  • We came to a room with a large boulder in it.
